Door-to-Door

“Hi, my name is _______________ (say first name only).

I’m a Scout with Pack 4 here in Hudson.

I am selling popcorn to help raise money to go to Scout Camp. By buying popcorn today, you’ll be helping me earn my own way to camp next summer and do fun things with my Pack all year long.

(Hand the customer the Take Order form and a pen and point out your favorite item. Make sure it is a $20 or more item).

You’ll help me, won’t you?”

There is some psychology to script above.

It is important to introduce yourself to the customer.  People respond better if they have a name to the face.  It makes the interaction feel more personal.  In addition, identifying the Pack and Town is important.  It makes the customer feel as if it is their local Unit they are supporting.

The next part speaks to why the Scout is selling popcorn. People are more likely to purchase a fundraising product if they know the reason why the Scout is selling.

Handing the order form to the customer is important.  Again, people are more likely to purchase popcorn if they have the order form in their hand.

Next, it is important to point out the Scouts favorite product on the form and hand them the pen.  It lets the customer have confidence the Scout knows the items and leads the customer to a specific product.

Finally, the closing is vitally important. People do not like to be sold anything.  However, people generally are willing to help a person in need.  This line brings the focus away from the product itself and back to the Scout at the door. The customer is more likely to say ‘Yes’.

Subject: Cub Scout Popcorn – on behalf of _______ (scout’s name)

Hi!

I hope you received ______’s phone message or got a chance to talk with him today.

His Cub Scout Pack is in full swing and has some very exciting activities planned this year: camping, Pinewood Derby, Trunk or Treat, tubing, Hanover Theater and more.

They hold only one fundraiser each year which goes to fund the entire year of activities and summer camp. 70% of all sales goes to local scouting. Last year, thanks to your support, ______ reached his $1,000 sales goal.  This year, _______ is trying to sell $2,000 so he can be top seller in his Den, and possibly his whole Pack!

Anything you can do to help is appreciated.  Thank you if you already placed an order today!  If you haven’t placed an order yet, there are 3 ways you can participate:

1) Check out the snack options attached and email back with your order.

2) Make a $30 Silver Donation or $50 Gold Donation to the Boy Scout Military fund. This is a donation of popcorn that goes to military men, women, family, and veterans’ organizations.

 3) If you want to help, but would rather not receive the scrumptious treats, we can donate your order to the Hudson Food Pantry on the Saturday before Thanksgiving.

Again, thank you for your support. It means a lot to us.  Feel free to ask your friends & neighbors if they would like to help a very nice & excited cub scout.  Keep your eyes out for more scouting pictures throughout the year!

((attach the order form and a picture of your Scout!))
