The pack has had great success selling popcorn the past four years. During this time, our scouts have sold nearly $210,000 of tasty popcorn products! No, this is not a typo! Our pack has been one of the top selling units in the council by far the last five years.
35% of this money came right back to our pack to fund the Pack 4 scouting program. These funds have allowed the pack to maintain a low yearly membership fee and expand our activities, all while reducing parental out-of-pocket expenses. In fact, it has been five years since families were last required to pay for their scouts to attend a pack event!
About 33% of last year’s total sales were made at site sales. Expanding the number of site sales really paid off, so this year we will once again have at least two site sales on each and every Saturday and Sunday throughout the sales campaign. Site sales begin Saturday, September 13th and run through Sunday, October 19th. Our site sale locations and dates have been booked for many months, but now we need scouts to sign up to staff the site sales. Most site sale shifts are two hours in duration with two scouts working per shift. We do have a few three hour shifts, which are probably better suited to the older scouts. We MUST have two scouts per sales shift, so buddy up and sign up!!
Working site sales is very simple. All you have to do is show up on time with your scout in uniform. The popcorn, the table, and everything else you need will be there already. We have a team of parent volunteers that handle the setup and breakdown of the sale, and the transport of product and money.
Please note that site sales do count towards the scouts’ individual sales totals for prizes and incentives, both at the pack and council level. At the end of the fundraising season a credit per scout hour will be calculated. Scouts received over $30 per hour worked during last year’s sales campaign. This year, scouts will also receive credit for set up and breakdown of the sale.
In order to give every scout an opportunity to sign up for at least two sales shifts, you may only select two shifts for this first few days of sign ups. Come September 15, at the Popcorn KickOff Party, it is wide open and scouts may sign up for as many shifts as they wish. Please note each scout must be accompanied by an adult to ensure the two deep leadership that is required by the BSA.
